A variety of relevant and high-quality imagery is an essential tool for showcasing what the Swan Valley has to offer, so all photos need to be visually appealing and engaging.

Our photography style is earthy, emotive and engaging.

  • When selecting or commissioning photos, the image composition should align with our brand personality and present a natural, inviting and positive feeling.
  • Overly posed scenarios or awkwardly angled images should be avoided, as well as shots that look cluttered or don’t align with the content.
  • Keep your audience in mind and ensure the imagery you use will convey the right energy.

Commissioning shoots and taking photos

When commissioning a photoshoot, the following considerations should be included in the brief:

  • The style should be warm, friendly and accessible, conveying that the Swan Valley is a welcoming and diverse place to visit
  • Show people enjoying and interacting with the Valley’s experiences and destinations
  • Not be overly posed or stylised
  • Highlight the Swan Valley’s physical infrastructure and assets in a positive light – ideally on clear weather days
  • Include the appropriate range of talent for the target market in terms of ages, genders and ethnicities, and ensure that the talent has signed a release form
  • Supplied at a minimum of 300dpi for print and include both portrait and landscape versions where possible.

The above advice also applies if you’re taking your own photos for use in Swan Valley materials.

Copyright and credits

Images that are not from the Swan Valley image library should have a credit when used on communications and marketing. The crediting format is: “Credit: photographer/business name and/or hashtag/link” and should be placed in the lower right or left of the image.

If you have an image and do not know where it is from or who it belongs to, do not use it.
