This page outlines the Swan Valley Visitor Centre’s sustainability actions, commitments and emissions-reduction activity.
The Swan Valley Visitor Centre is proud to welcome visitors to Western Australia’s oldest wine region while supporting a visitor economy that is responsible, inclusive and future focused.
As a City of Swan operated Visitor Centre, our sustainability work is guided by the City’s broader Sustainable Environment Strategy and sustainability direction.
Sustainability is part of how we welcome visitors, support local businesses, tell our stories, and care for the region we represent.
The Swan Valley Visitor Centre supports sustainable and responsible tourism by:
We recognise that tourism has social, cultural, environmental and economic impacts and are committed to helping these to be positive impacts.
Our team provides personalised, local advice that helps visitors make informed choices about where to go, how to travel through the region and how to support local businesses. Through maps, itineraries, digital tools and face-to-face recommendations, we encourage visitors to explore respectfully and connect with experiences that reflect the character of the Swan Valley.
We continue to expand digital visitor servicing tools to reduce unnecessary printing while still supporting visitors who need or prefer hard copy information. This includes QR-linked information, digital itineraries, online trails, live chat, website tools and digital visitor guides. Our aim is to provide the right information in the right format, while reducing waste wherever practical.
The Visitor Centre supports local producers and makers where possible. This helps reduce supply chain impacts, supports small businesses and gives visitors a stronger connection to local provenance.
The Swan Valley Visitor Centre acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of this region, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation, and their continuing connection to land, waters and community.
Our responsible tourism work includes sharing stories of place respectfully, supporting cultural interpretation and recognising the importance of Aboriginal connection to Country. We continue to strengthen how cultural, heritage and environmental stories are represented through visitor information, displays, itineraries and partnerships.
Sustainable tourism must also be inclusive tourism. The Visitor Centre continues to improve access through inclusive service, digital accessibility tools, translated information, sensory-aware service and practical facility improvements. Our aim is to make the Swan Valley easier to understand, navigate and enjoy for more visitors.
