Mondo Nougat

The late Alfonso Romeo brought the age-old art of nougat-making to Australia when he emigrated from Calabria in the late 80s.

This delectable sweet, made from honey and egg whites, dates back to the 16th century and has changed very little over time. Today the Romeo family are the proud owners of the Mondo Nougat factory, where you’ll discover the secrets and traditions of nougat from the special viewing area.

As well as the many different flavours of nougat on offer, be tempted by home-made gelati, biscotti and other sweet treats, including the family’s famous nougat cheesecake, a decadent rum baba and rich rum balls made with locally produced Canefire Rum from the Great Northern Distillery.

The factory also stocks a range of treats free from gluten, lactose, sugar and cholesterol. Tastings are free and group bookings welcomed.
