Wine is definitely in the genes of Mickele Amonini, whose family made fine wines in the Valtellina region, near the Swiss-Italian border in northern Italy. They continued this tradition in Australia, planting vines in the rich, fertile soils of the Swan River in West Swan.
Since then, Mickele purchased an older vineyard in the Valley with vines dating back to 1945 and evolved the business into a boutique winery and restaurant, selling a wide range of award-winning Italian favourites.
These include sangiovese, vermentino, moscato and old vine grenache (cannonau). Mickele also grows and makes classic Swan Valley varietals including chenin, verdelho, shiraz, several cabernets and – of course – fortified wines.
Lunch at this quintessential Swan Valley cellar door features such Italian favourites as antipasto platters, arancini balls and Italian cheese platters along with wine by the glass or bottle, all enjoyed under the vine arbor overlooking the vines.
