The Swan Valley Visitor Centre is committed to providing equitable access to people of all ages and abilities. Our centre supports people who are blind or have low vision, people who are deaf or hard of hearing, people who have limited mobility, use wheelchairs or other mobility devices.

The following information describes the supports the Visitor Centre has in place:

Disable Carpark

Access to premises

  • A drop-off point close to the entrance
  • Accessible ACROD parking bays
  • The accessible entrance is visible from the parking bay
  • A clear access way to the building that is slip-resistant
  • Pathways are at least 900mm wide
  • Surfaces are smooth and hard
  • Self-opening/closing entry doors
  • Colour contrasting doors, trims, door handles and signage
  • The entry is at least 1,300mm wide with a sill of less than 13mm
  • The entry door mat is less than 13mm thick
  • Exhibition room entry doors are 800mm wide
  • All doors have a clear space of 1,500x1,500mm
  • The closest assisted access public transport is Guildford Train Station

  • All corridors are at least 900mm wide
  • Staff available to help access the optional retail section of the building which is up three steps
  • Accessible toilet facilities:
    o Door is at least 850mm wide
    o Minimum 850mm clearance around the toilet
    o Toilet is 460mm above the ground
    o 3m of space in front of the toilet
    o Pack-away baby change facility on the wall

Accessible information

  • Bookings and enquiries can be made in person, on the phone, by email or via the accessible website
  • High contrast, plain English/large print information sheets and registration forms
  • Maps in written form
  • Open captions on displays, televisions and videos

Staff who can communicate with people with disability

  • Staff are trained to help everyone have a good experience and endeavour to meet all customer needs respectfully
  • Staff can provide:
    o Easy-to-read signs, information and communication boards
    o iPads with text to voice for information/bookings
    o Large screen with Swan Valley pictures showing businesses
    o Pen and paper to support communication

Responsive evacuation procedures

  • Emergency evacuation plan for people with disability
  • Clear access to entry/exit

Service Animals

  • There’s a toilet area in the park opposite the centre for service animals
  • Service animals are offered water
