Tasting plates, grazing plates – call them what you will, these platters are the perfect way to sample the food on offer at one of the Swan Valley’s many eating places. Build your own or put yourself in the hands of the chef, no matter a fabulous eating experience awaits you.
RiverBrook Restaurant and Café overlooking the vines at award winning winery Upper Reach offers three different platters each enough for two hungry diners. The Tex- Mex is a salute to the cuisine of Southern USA and Mexico including pork ribs, spicy wings, chilli con carne and quesadilla. The Mediterranean takes us through Southern Europe with chicken marinated in Greek inspired spices, chorizo, arancini balls, pickles, meatballs and cheeses. Meanwhile the Indian takes a culinary journey of the Sub-Continent with lentil dip, chicken tikka, spiced lamb shoulder, eggplant kasundi, rice and pappadums.
At Lamonts in Millendon you get to build your own from the Small Taste menu which changes seasonally – think mini lamb and rosemary pies, manchego croquettes, tempura battered whiting, fried chicken tenderloins, and bacon wrapped chipolatas with mustard sauce. All perfect with a glass or two of their excellent wine.
Picturesque restaurant, Riverbank, which has one of the prettiest outlooks of any in the Valley offers a changing Chef’s tasting plate made up of selections from that day’s menu. Designed for two, it could have blue cheese panna cotta, pork belly, poached yabbies, beignets, Fremantle sardines and herb bread – but whatever it is you will be sure to enjoy sitting inside the restaurant or on the sheltered veranda complete with heaters for those cold and rainy days.
A Continental twist? Head off to Elmars in the Valley and a share platter of their famous smallgoods including cured ham, salami, pork in aspic, paté or black pudding, washed down with one of their own German style beers.
Finish off with a stop at Swan Valley Café, a vegetarian haven, where you can try a High Tea plate with a selection of gluten free cakes and freshly brewed tea and coffee.
The Swan Valley has something for everyone from fine dining to casual outdoor eating and a tasting platter is simply a great way to sample the food on offer.
