Beyond the Swan Valley

Sure, the Swan Valley is simply stunning, but venture beyond it and you'll discover plenty of neighbouring places offering more diverse experiences.

Midland

Midland is the commercial core of the hills. Located just a few minutes out of the Swan Valley, Midland is a convenient one-stop shop for all your needs. A busy and vibrant suburb, Midland’s main retail precincts are the bustling Midland Gate Shopping Centre, and the vast commercial strip along Great Eastern Highway.

Also establishing itself as a flourishing cultural hub, Midland is home to fantastic events that bring the city centre alive, from urban comedy and circus spectaculars to pop up bars and water parks.

Over the last few years, Midland has undergone a dramatic revitalisation with modern apartments and housing developments popping up all over the area. Also boasting a brand new hospital, an upcoming Curtin University Medical School, and with an impressive redevelopment of Midland Oval on the horizon, this growing suburb is one to watch.

Gidgegannup

Gidgegannup is a rural neighbour of the Swan Valley, made up of beautiful native bushland, oodles of fresh air and quiet country charm. The name of the area has Noongar origins, meaning "the place where spears are made". The Indigenous people of the area called it Gidjeejarnup, which later developed into its current name by the influence of white settlers.

Gidgegannup has some of the most beautiful natural walking trails and national parks around, so get your hiking gear ready. Berry Reserve, Noble Falls, Walyunga and Karakamia Sanctuary show off the area’s beautiful natural fauna and flora, and provide seriously breathtaking views of Perth and the metropolitan area.

Searching for somewhere to entertain the whole family? Gidge has the goods. Pack a picnic and visit stunning Noble Falls. Take time out from a busy life and camp under the stars. Check out the annual Small Farm Field Day in May and the family fun-filled Gidge Show every October.

Bullsbrook

Bullsbrook is a rural farming town with beautiful surrounds and a rich history. Mainly populated by farmers, and surrounded with vast national parks and bushland, it’s hard to believe Bullsbrook is barely an hour out of Perth’s CBD and 25 minutes from Midland. Bullsbrook has been home to Pearce Airbase, a training facility for the Royal Australian Air Force, since 1939. The RAAF airbase is the busiest in Australia, and is the only permanent airbase found in the State.

If you’re a nature lover, Bullsbrook may well be your utopia. It’s close to the beautiful Walyunga National Park, the Bullsbrook Natural Reserve, Leda Nature Reserve, the Avon Valley National Park and the nearby Moondyne Nature Reserve.

Perhaps the most iconic attraction in Bullsbrook is The Maze, home of Outback Splash. This wonderful water park is a perfect option for a fun-filled family day out. From water slides to mazes, to cuddly native animals, there’s something keep the kids occupied all year round.

If you want to learn more about Bullsbrook’s history, then look no further. The BRRA museum at West Bullsbrook Hall is a real eye opener. The museum has collected, preserved and displayed fascinating Bullsbrook district heritage items including documents, photographs, oral histories, artefacts and machinery.

Bullsbrook is also home to one of the only strawberry farms in WA where you can pick your very own stash of juicy red strawberries straight from the plant when they come into season!

Ellenbrook and Surrounds

Vibrant and rapidly growing, Ellenbrook boasts the title of best master-planned community in the world, and there’s little wonder why. 150 hectares, eight bustling housing villages and a vibrant town centre all create the perfect recipe for a successful community. Ellenbrook is quickly becoming one of Perth’s most popular and burgeoning residential suburbs, expected to eventually populate up to 70,000 people.

In the buzzing commercial precinct, you can find shopping, facilities, services, spaces and more. The Shops at Ellenbrook is the suburb's major shopping centre with 80 stores and retailers. And yet, just 10 minutes out of Ellenbrook is the beautiful Swan Valley, where you’ll discover a whole other world, filled with stunning natural scenery, extraordinary wine and delicious food.
