Gidgegannup

Nestling in the unspoilt forests and native bush east of Midland and Guildford , in the plateau countryside just beyond the Darling Ranges, is Gidgegannup. It is known for its natural beauty with a number of scenic walking trails, wildflower drives, native bush sanctuary, and the annual agricultural show.

The F R Berry Reserve (PDF 6MB) is a comfortable 50 minute drive from Perth, features a scenic 2.7 km walking trail which leads through a variety of terrain, past granite outcrops and along the pretty Wooroloo Brook.

If wildflowers are a passion, visit the reserve during August and September and see the abundance of native flora – including several species of orchid unique to Western Australia. In season, wildflowers can also be seen along the
53 km circular wildflower drive (PDF 1.4MB).

The Paruna Sanctuary encompasses nearly 2,000 hectares of native bush protected by a vermin proof fence. The sanctuary is home to many native animal species including quenda, tammar wallabies and black-flanked rock wallabies. It features 15 km of walking trails and is accessible to the public at $5 per walker. For bookings, telephone (08) 6572 3169.

Just east of Gidgegannup are the scenic Noble Falls, with a 3.5 km walk, children’s playground and gas barbecues.  The town’s biggest event is the Gidgegannup Agricultural Show, held on the last Saturday in October at the showgrounds, which have picnic facilities and a children’s playground. The ‘Gidge Show’, as it is known locally, features a log chop, equestrian events and farm animals, while the exhibition hall boasts over 1600 competition entries from pickles to pottery; floristry to fresh produce; and spinning to sponge cakes.
