The valley was founded on agriculture and the tradition continues today. When you drive through the region, at most times of year you will see numerous roadside stalls selling a huge variety of local produce.
Depending on the season, you can find freshly picked asparagus, plump strawberries, juicy melons, vine ripened tomatoes and a wide range of other locally grown foods with prices that are often cheaper than you’d find in the supermarket, not to mention the superior quality and taste.
The production of table grapes is a major industry in the valley. Crisp and juicy grapes that have just been picked are a summer treat not to be missed. Olives are another significant industry here. Keep your eyes peeled for examples of fine local extra virgin olive oils, marinated and salted olives, as well as some great tapenades.
Throughout most of the year, farmers also sell fresh produce made from their harvests. Treats available include jams, dressings, olive oils, dried fruits and honey. These and other kinds of locally made boutique produce are on sale at many wineries and other outlets.
